This medicine is prescribed by doctors as it kills malaria parasites that invade the red blood cells. Thus, it is a part of a group of medicines which are known as antimalarials. It effectively treats malaria but does not prevent the onset of the disease.
The drug should be taken as per the instructions given by a doctor. It is meant for oral consumption, and it is generally recommended that patients should take it along with food, so as to reduce the chances of a stomach upset.
This medication is generally prescribed for about 3-7 days and should be taken after every 8 hours.
