Product Information

Product Description

Oxramet 5mg/500mg Tablet IR contains Dapagliflozin which belongs to the group of medicines called Antidiabetic agents. It is used to treat Type II diabetes mellitus in adults and in children (aged 10 years or older) when diet and exercise does not result in adequate control on blood glucose levels. It can also be used to treat heart failure and chronic kidney disease (reduced kidney function) in adults.

Type II diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease characterized by abnormally high levels of glucose in the blood. It is caused due to inadequate production of a hormone called insulin (produced by pancreas to metabolize glucose) in the body or due to inadequate sensitivity of body cells to the actions of insulin.

Oxramet 5mg/500mg Tablet IR is a combination of two medicines used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus. It helps control the high blood sugar levels seen in diabetes. This reduces the chances of serious complications of diabetes and also helps prevent heart disease.

Oxramet 5mg/500mg Tablet IR can be taken with or without food at any time of day but you should try to take it at the same time every day. The dose will be decided by your doctor. Don’t stop taking it without asking your doctor. If you do, your blood sugar levels may increase and put you at risk of serious complications like kidney damage and blindness. This medicine is only part of a treatment program that should include a healthy diet, regular exercise, and weight reduction as advised by your doctor

During therapy with Oxramet 5mg/500mg Tablet IR, your doctor might regularly monitor your blood sugar levels and kidney functions to avoid the risk of unwanted side effects. He/she might also ask you to make certain lifestyle changes such as following a healthy diet, regular physical exercise and quitting alcohol consumption to achieve better results. You must also check your feet regularly and follow the foot care advice given by your doctor as a precaution.

Before taking Oxramet 5mg/500mg Tablet IR inform your doctor if you have any liver or kidney problems. You must also inform your doctor if you have type I diabetes, severe low blood pressure, severe dehydration or conditions which can cause dehydration (such as nausea, vomiting, fever, serious illness any surgery etc.).

Key Benefits

Oxramet 5mg/500mg Tablet IR belongs to the anti-diabetic drug category, indicated in the treatment of type 2 diabetes or non-insulin-dependent diabetes (NIDDM). This medicine is primarily prescribed to persons whose blood sugar levels are high and not controlled by diet and exercise alone. Oxramet XR 10mg/1000mg Tablet consists of “Dapagliflozin” a sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT-2) inhibitor responsible for inhibiting SGLT-2 enzymes in the kidney. Thus, it prevents the reabsorption of glucose from the blood filtered through your kidney, thereby increasing the glucose excretion from your body when you urinate.

HOW Oxramet 5mg/500mg Tablet IR WORKS

Oxramet 5mg/500mg Tablet IR is a SGLT-2 inhibitor. It works by blocking the action of a protein called SGLT-2 in the kidneys. This action prevents the reabsorption of glucose and sodium ions in the kidneys. As a result, it excretes excess glucose from the body in the form urine leading to decrease in blood sugar levels. It also protects kidney function and prevents it from further damage. Additionally, it reduces the strain on the heart and helps it to pump blood more efficiently with less pressure
